The Migration
During the 6th century the first Nahuatl speaking peoples begin to settle in Mexico. This was the start to the Aztec. They started in Aztlan which is in northern Mexico. -
Period: 1110 to 1248
The Search
In 1110 to 1248 the Mexia (aka the Aztec) roam around, what is now, Mexico. They were looking for a place to stay. They left Aztlan in search of a better location. -
1325
The Settlement
In 1325 the first settlement was made called Tenochtitlán. It is located on the island on Lake Texcoco. This is the first settlement that was owned by the Aztec and nobody else. -
1376
The 1st King
In 1376 Acamapichitli became the first king of Tenochtitlán. He later died in 1395. He ruled for 19 years. -
1390
The Temple
In 1390 the Aztec started building Templo Mayor. This was the main temple. It is now known as Mexico City. -
1395
The 2nd King
In 1395 the second king of Tenochtitlán, Huitzilihuitzli, rules. Also, he made a friend for the Aztec. The Aztec now have an alliance, Tepaneca. -
1417
The 3rd King
In 1417 the third king, Chimlpopoca, was assassinated by their alliance. He died in 1427. He had the shortest reign out of anybody. -
1427
The 4th King
In 1427 the 4th king, Itzcoatl, started his reign. After the 3rd king, the Aztec has gotten more guards for the king. His reign ended in 1440. -
Period: 1427 to 1430
The War
In 1427-1430 the Aztec go to war with Tepaneca. The Aztec won. Some think that 240,000 people were killed. -

The 5th King
In 1440 the 5th king, Moctezuma, started his reign as king of the Aztec. He lived a normal king life. He died in 1469. -
1469
The 6th King
In 1469 the 6th king, Axayacatl, rules over the Aztec. He lives his life as a king. His life ended in 1481. -
Period: 1519 to 1521
The 2nd War
In 1519 to 1521 Hernan Cortes fought against the Aztec. The king was Montezuma ll. The Aztec were seeing bad omens before the battle. -
Aug 13, 1521
The Surrender
On August 13th, 1521 the fall of Tenochtitlán happened. Then, Cuauhtemoc surrenders to Cortes. This caused the destruction of the city. -
1522
The Rebuild
In 1522 the Spaniards started to rebuild the city. They rebuilt Mexico City. This was now the capital of New Spain. ( aka Mexico) -
1525
The End
In 1525 the eleventh king was hung and ended the Aztec forever. He was a prisoner for 4 years. He got tortured while in captive.
