In fall of 2001, Amanda was almost halfway through her bachelors degree. One of those evening she got a call from her mother, it was apparent that her mom was upset. It was apparent that her parents were going through a divorce. The next day Amanda broke up with her boyfriend who she was dating sense 9th grade. This is an example of intimacy vs. isolation. Amanda felt like she could not afford to be vulnerable and to protect her feelings, she ended her long term relationship.
