  • Dr. Manette is Imprisoned

    Dr. Manette is recruited by the St. Evremonde Brothers to treat a raped woman and her dying brother. Dr. Manette is imprisoned for trying to publicize what he witnessed. While imprisoned he writes a journal that becomes important later in the novel.

  • The Beginning of A Tale of Two Cities

    Dr. Manette is released from the Bastille after 18 years in prison and hidden by Defarge. Dr. Manette returns to London with his daughter Lucie and Jarvis Lorry.

  • Treason, Murder, and the Marquis, Oh My!

    • Charles Darney is tried and acquitted of treason in London.
    • In Paris, Marquis St. Evrémonde runs over and kills Defarge's son. - That same day, Darnay meets with the Marquis, who is his uncle, and denounces his family name.
    • The next day, St. Evrémonde is found murdered.

  • The Marriage of Lucie and Charles & the Relapse of Dr. Manette

    Lucie and Charles Darney marry. Dr. Manette goes into relapse of shoe-making.

  • Little Lucie is Born!

    Charles and Lucie give birth to Little Lucie

  • Storming of Bastille & Discovery of the Letter

    The Storming of the Bastille. This is the start of the French Revolution.
    Dr. Manette's journal has been discovered by Defarge.

  • "Charles" is Guillotined

    -Charles goes into his third trial.
    -Charles is found guilty in his third trial, because of the note from Dr. Manette's cell.
    -Carton and Charles switch places and Charles flees to England.
    -Madame Defarge is killed by Miss Pross.
    -Carton is guillotined.

  • Charles Imprisoned

    Charles returns to France, and ends up imprisoned.

  • September Massacres

    The September Massacres begin.
    Lucie, Dr. Manette, Mr. Lorry, Jerry Cruncher, and Miss Pross all come to Paris.
    Dr. Manette's influence saves Darnay during his second trial by persuading the jury.

  • Goodbye Sydney's Head

    Charles goes into his third trial.
    John Barsad is revealed as Solomon Pross, and is blackmailed into helping Sydney Carton.
    Charles is found guilty in his third trial, because of the note from Dr. Manette's cell.
    Sydney and Charles switch places and Charles flees to England.
    Madame Defarge is killed by Miss Pross.
    Sydney is guillotined.
