  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    In 1975, there were children with disabilities who were unable to receive a proper education from the public school system. An estimated 8 million children were excluded from the "regular" classroom environment, until November 29, 1075.   • Board of Education of the Hendrick Hudson Central School District v. Rowley

    Board of Hendrick Hudson vs Rowley- A case where parents argued their daughter was robbed of her full potential without an interpreter. Supreme Court decided the argument was based on a misinterpretation of the EAHC Act of 1975. The Rowleys filed suit on the basis of their belief that the school violated the act.   • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is enacted.

    This act was modeled after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It prohibits discrimination based on the color of skin, race, religion, or sex. Plans for individual became more commonplace in school. The act guaranteed that the people with disabilities would have the same opportunities as everyone else in the mainstream of American life. The act is known as the "Equal opportunity" law for the handicapped. Link text
