    Mills vs. Board of Education
    In this court case students with disabilities were fighting for the right to be given a public education. This court case brought upon 7 children who were denied access to school because of budget constraints.
  • Section 504

    Section 504
    Section 504 was a law put in place to help students with disabilities thrive in school. I helps students gain an equal education while removing barriers that may be in the way of their way of learning. Section 504 provides kids with the support and guidance they need; these are not a part of the actual Special Education Department. It does provide a more individualized instruction for the students.

    IDEA 2004
    Under the 2004 IDEA act all students are entitled to a free and appropriate public education free of charge. Each student will be taught in a least restrictive environment. This act was created to make sure students with disabilities were being included amongst typical learning students.

    Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008
    With this amendment, congress wanted to make sure there was "a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination."     Obama had one goal and that was to make sure all students were being taught and learning at the same level. He raised the standards for all students and created more assessments to make sure they are all learning.
