    Brown v. Board of Education
    Supreme court ruled that racial segregation of children in school was a violation of the 14th amendment.(History, 1965)
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
    The law signed by President Johnson and included all children services, including children with disabilities, to have equal access to education. Later this law will be revised.(Libraries, 2017)
  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children (PARC) filed suit against Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for a law that would not allow children who not the mental age of 5 years old to participate in school. The courts found this law unconstitutional and required free public education for individuals with severe disabilities. (Center, n.d)
  • Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia

    Mills v. Board of Education of District of Columbia
    Children were denied rights for education even if they could not afford it. The court case also found that it was a violation to deny students with behavioral issues. (Center, n.d.; Wright, 2010; Justice, 2018)
  • Rehabilitaction Act of 1973

    Rehabilitaction Act of 1973
    This law replaced the Vocational Rehiblitation Act and prohibits discrimination against individuals who have a disability by federal employees who receive federal funding.

  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    President Ford signed the law that provided all children with a disability/special needs to have the same opportunity of education as other children. This law also allowed parents to dispute educational decisions made about their children. (Center, n.d.; Wright, 2010)
  • American Disabilty Act

    American Disabilty Act
    This law was passed to protect individuals with disabilities. The law protected individuals from discrimination due to race, origin, disability, religion, and sex. This law also requires employer's and public buisness to make any needed accommidations for disabled clients and employee's.
  • Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA)

    Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA)
    This Law provided free education to students with disabilities. It also ensures how services or interventions are provided for special education students.(Education, 2018)
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    Amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). This Law enforced testing for children.
  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act

    The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act
    This this addition to the IDEA law promoted accountability for parents to become more involeved with IEP process and reduce someof the burdent fromthe teachers and schools.(Partnership, n.d.)
