    Spain responded to the Cuban revolt by sending General Valeriano Weyler to Cuba to restore order. He wanted to herd the population into concentration camps and not let them live lives like they were allowed too. About 300,000 people were put into these camps to starve to death or die of nasty disease.

    America had so much outrage towards Spain. McKinnley sent the USS Maine to save innocent americans from danger. Nobody knew, but the ship then blew up in the harbor in 1898. There was a $50,000 reward for anyone who could help with the evidence of the ship.
