First research flight was launched by the U.S captured by the V-2 space rocket. This is important becuase now we are discovering new things using the technology we are supplied with. -

First animals launched into space (fruit flies) by thr U.S. This is important becuase this shows not only we can launch humans into space, but we can also launch animals. -
First Satellite
This is when the first artificial satellite was put into space by the U.S. This is important because our space instrument are only getting better and better. -
Explorer 1
Explorer 1 (first satellite by the U.S) launched into orbit. This is important because the instruments we created on earth are now being put to use. -
Sputnik Was Launched
Sputnik was launched, carrying the dogs Strelka and Belka. This is important because they launched another mission with animals because the last one was good. -
First American in Orbit
John Glenn became the first American in orbit above earth. This is showing that we can successfully put an American in orbit so we can learn more things about earth and space from an outstanding view. -
First Men on Moon
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to land on the moon. This is showing that now we can study the moon and go to the moon with the space instruments we have. -
First Space Station
U.S launched first space station- Skylab. This is important becuase now we are moving towards a place where we can stay in space a longer time and a place to have a place to study space. -
1st Space Shuttle Launched
Columbia became the first space shuttle to be launched. This is important becuase now we are able to put humans into space with a new way of transformation. -
The Magellan Spacecraft
The Magellan spacecraft began mapping the surface of Venus using radar equipment. This is important because now we have to tecnology to go to other planets and orbit them. -
Space Shuttle Endeavor
Space shuttle endeavor made it's first servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope. This is important becuase now we are able to put a space telescope using the rockets and equipment we have so that we can see farther and gather more information about out solar system. -
International Space Station
During this time, the International Space Station was launched. This is major becuase now as a world, we can have a place to study space and collect huge amounts of data so we can learn more about our solar system. -
Curiosity Was Launched
NASA launched Curiosity,the biggest, best equipped robot ever sent to explore another planet. This is important becuase now we have robots to get close to other planet's terrain and really tell the structures of the planet.
