  • Goddard launched the first liquid fueled rocket.

Goddard launched the first liquid fueled rocket.
Robert H. Goddard launched the first rocket that was more efficient of the way the rocket was launched. The liquid fuel was more efficient because of the way it was used and how it helped launching the rocket. From then on rockets were more efficient with the liquid fuel that Goddard used.
    Key people: Robert H. Goddard
  • The year the first rocket of the Soviet Union was launched.

The Soviet Union was battle against the U.S. NASA about their own space stations, satellites, etc. This was the first rocket made that was launched by the Soviet Union. During the space race getting things into space fast and safely was the goal and this rocket was the first rocket in space and was launched by the Soviet Union.

  • The Voyager 2 was sent into space to collect research.

The Voyager 2 was sent into space to collect research.
The Voyager 2 was sent into space to help collect data on space to help the U.S. NASA improve on space rockets and more things to come of the exploration of space.
Key people: The crew members of NASA.
  • The first animals were launched into space.

The U.S were the first to come up with a way to safely and effectively send animals into space. This help with putting humans into space because the U.S. tested the theory with animals first and then worked on putting humans in space.
Key people: U.S. And the dog Laika.
  • First satellite sent into space.

    First satellite sent into space.
This was the start of the space race between the Soviet Union and the U.S. Once the first satellite was in space by the Soviet Union the U.S. stepped up and started to improve their game and came out with different satellite. And the race contiuned from this point.
    Key people: Soviet Union.
  • The first photo of Eath from Earth's orbit.

The first photo of Eath from Earth's orbit.
The U.S. NASA found out a way to study Earth by taking the first photograph of Earth from its orbit or from its atomsphere.
    Key people: NASA
  • First animals to come back to Earth safely and alive.

They found a way to make animals go into and come back safely to Earth. The data collected from this mission can help lead to humans making it into space and back safely and alive.
Key people: Soviet Union and the dogs Belka and Strelka.
  • Mars and its first sighting and flyby.

Now planets and different moons are being discovered by the U.S. NASA. With all the new technology being created and involving it helped to see Mars for the first time.
    Key people: Crew of NASA.
  • First human being on the moon.

First human being on the moon.
The goal was reached by the U.S. NASA by setting the first man footprints in the moon. This was the goal to end space race by setting the first human being on the moon but it still never ended.
    Key people: Neil Armstrong, NASA.
  • First space station in space.

    First space station in space.
The USSR sent the first space station into space which continued the space race between the Soviet Union and U.S. The Salyut 1 was the first ever space station to go into space. Shortly after this the space race ended in 1975

  • First reusable manned spacecraft created.

    First reusable manned spacecraft created.
Things are being created so they can be reused and not rebuilt every time to discover something. Things are getting done more efficient and faster for the Americans because of the first reusable spacecraft.
    Key people: U.S. NASA.
  • Spacecraft beyond the orbit of Neptune.

We are sending spacecrafts further out into space and discovering more and more things and going even further into space. Collecting more data when the U.S. sends spacecrafts farther out into space.
Key people: United States space crew.
  • First photo of the whole entire solar system.

First photo of the whole entire solar system.
Now that new things were being discovered and created the Americans can now research more and take pictures of the whole entire solar system and not just parts of it.
Key people: The main people at NASA.
  • First polar orbit around the Sun.

First polar orbit around the Sun.
The U.S. NASA and ESA worked together to find a way to makes its first polar orbit around the sun and not just different planets. They had to test a lot for the hot temperature that could occur during the orbit around the sun.
Key people: NASA and the ESA
  • Longest timespan in Earth's orbit.

Valeri Polyakov from Russia created the longest time in Earth's orbit in 1995. People were now going into space for long periods of time instead short, minimum days in space. He stayed up in space for 14 months.
