This is when 12 of the thirteen colonies sent delegates to talk about dealing with the British threat. -

This is when the Second Continental Congress met. They came together to create the Declaration of Independence, and later served as the main body of government. -
Declaration of Independence
This Declaration declared independence from the British once it was accepted in the US. This occurred during the American Revolution after constant wrongs committed by the British leading up to it.
