    When she was supposed to be released her owner denied her release. During that time she met with another slave Thomas which she had 5 children which was said that some were the owners children. Sojourner decided to escape with Sophia after a slave auction.

    Sojourner later met Isaac and Maria Van Wagner who purchased her freedom for 20$. When she was freed she changed her name to Bella Van Wagner. She stayed with Isaac and Maria and was their servant

    Sojourner went to Manhattan and went to Methodist church, and Zion African Church. While attending church she met her brother and followed a group leader Mathias. Later someone from her group was poisoned which they blamed on Sojourner but she won not guilty and gained 125$.

    Sojourner became a member of Northampton Massachusetts and was in contact with an abolitionist movement. She went t an education and industry founded by George W. Benson. While she attended the industry she met a famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and William Lloyd Garrison.

    Sojourner later went on her own after the association disbanded and started a tour in new England. She went around saying speeches. She said one of her most famous speeches saying ain't I a woman and describing how she worked with the men on the fields, raised 5 children and could do more than a men and ain't I a woman.

    After the accusation Truth returned to Zion African church. She told people she heard the voice of god. Which made her change her name to Sojourner Truth.

    Sojourner helped the civil war because she nursed black union soldiers hurt in battle. She provided them with food, and clothes, She was even called upon by President Lincoln about slavery which resulted in many freed slaves to move to Kansas.

    Sojourner died in Battle Creek. After being active in the newly reformed American equal rights movement. She was called a hero by many.
