What Billy sees is a "Sunday school picture of Heaven." Everything was so beautiful and astonishing to Billy and the other POW's he was with. After arrival, they were brought to the Slaughterhouse 5. -
Lazzaro Bitten by the Dog
Lazzaro had been bitten by a dog, it was a terrifying and horrific experience. He was bitten and so he took springs, and razor blades and put them in a steak, fed it to the dogs and watched him suffer. He was suffering, having blood gushing from its gums and teeth. -
Bombing of Dresden
Billy survives the bombing but hundreds of thousands of others did not. All the buildings and everything that made Dresden beautiful came crashing and collapsing down.Billy is devastated. -
Discharge and Schooling
After an honorable discharge from the Army, Billy again enrolled in the Ilium School of Optometry. As a senior he became engaged then suffered a mild nervous collapse. -
Marriage
Billy finally gets married to Valencia. She is the daughter of an optometrist. He doesn't think she is beautiful and doesn't acknowledge her. Billy marries her primarily for wealth and money. -
Abduction
Billy gets abducted by the Tralfamadorians and brought to their planet by a flying saucer.There, he lives in a zoo like place where he learns all about them and what they believe in. They don't believe in free will. -
Plane Crash
While on his way to an optometrist convention with other optometrists, the plane he was on crashes into a mountain in Vermont. Only Billy and the co-pilot survive. -
Valencia's Death
Valencia was racing to get to Billy who had just been in a plane crash. On he way to the hospital, she crashed into another car and drove away. While she was still in her car, she dies from carbon monoxide poisoning.
