  • First Australian Currency

    Governer Lachlan Macquarie imported 40,000 silver Spanish "Eight-Reale" pieces. By stamping out the centres of the coins, he distinguished them as Australian Currency. Today they are worth lots of money. They are called the "Holey Dollar".
