  • 2.1 Early Maturer

    My puberty began around when I was turning 9 years old. My menstruation began when I turned 10 years old. My sexual maturation began just around prior to my menstruation. I began experiencing sexual behaviors that was considered early for my age. My experience would have been different if I matured at a different time because I matured BEFORE everyone else did, I presented them with the information I had discovered for myself. It was quite a journey.
  • 1.1 Entering Adolescence

    I began menstruating at the age of ten. I also underwent a transition from waking up early in the mornings to sleeping in very late. I experienced what seemed like sexual maturation and physical changes. My body began to grow and take shape. My thinking gradually became abstracted because I was able to come up with really complicated questions about life and growth itself. My physical maturation came very early and it does match the transition to adolescence mentioned in the text.
  • 8.1- rite of passage

    This part of rite of passage was very important to my mother. It was the day I first menstruated. I was 10 years old. My early adolescence began with this very development. I had transitioned from a girl to a woman. I remember my mother welcoming me into womanhood by explaining me the depth of menstruation and why it was important. She encouraged me to accept it and let it become a part of my new milestone. This was my kind of rite of passage during my adolescence.
  • 6.2 - ego support

    I remember getting into a relationship that year and I was going through some difficult time getting jealous of the other girls my boyfriend was talking to, I had friends that helped me reassure that I was better than them. As an adolescent, it really helped with my self-esteem. They fed my ego to ensure that I didn't break down, and to continue viewing myself better than other girls in a more positive way. As well as my school performance, I was always told I was good in school.
  • 3.2 Contradictions

    During my transition from 8th grade to entering 9th grade, I developed a sense of self description but since I was experiencing puberty, I created contradictions. While doing so, I would often consider myself extrovert and quiet. Seeing as I liked to go out and please my friends for attention, I loved the quiet too. I was lazy and I was an athlete. I was emotional and I was tough. These are all of the contradictions that I thought was common.
  • 7.1 - transition to high school

    I never experienced the top-dog phenomenon because I was mainstreamed so I remained as below average before, during, and after the transition to high school. However, I developed a sense of independency once I reached high school. I learned to do my assignments without depending on my interpreters and tutor. The change in diversity from middle school to high school was minor because my town was already very diversified. The transition was not as major as the transition to college.
  • 3.1 Imaginary Audience

    Growing up, I realized that the most of my highschool years were based on Imaginary Audience because I was peer pressured into being liked by a popular group of people at school. Therefore, my " onstage" behavior is constant because of my egocentrism. I was focused on being noticed and visible. By doing so, I was very vibrant in my attitude and constantly kept up with the popular peer's daily fashion styles and attitude. That became a part of who I was.
  • 6.3 - Stimulation

    In 2008, the rise of use in twitter happened around that year. My friends and I loved tweeting and to share information regarding other groups of people at school. I was constantly running on gossips to be stimulated. Constantly running on social media for attention, amusement, and entertainment. They played a huge part in becoming who I was. It was my favorite thing to do, to judge others and gossip about what was unnecessarily important. My friends were with me for that, always.
  • 4.2 Nongender typed behavior

    I do recognize non gender typed behavior pretty often these days but during my adolescence, I can remember that one time that I did. During my senior year in high school, I played on my high school's rugby team. One of the girls on our team were a lot more tougher and bigger than the rest of us, physically. She was also aggressive and disobedient during the games. She exhibited a different gender behavior.
  • 4.1 Gender-typed behavior

    With this experience, I remember taking a cosmetics class in high school where it was an all girls class, except for this one boy who decided to take it. He acted more of a man, no less than masculine. When the teacher had told that we were all supposed to give massages and manicures, the guy argued because he did not want to do things that were "girly", and then he dropped out of the class. This shows that he behaved towards his gender type.
  • 3.3 Self-conciousness

    As soon as I entered my senior year in high school, my self consciousness had arisen. I would look into my friends or depend on them when it came to self descriptions. Using their view of me as my own identity. Such as, "very beautiful and very creative" being the common statement. I believed so because it mattered more than my own. Therefore, my friends were the main source when it came to self descriptions.
  • 2.2 Niche-picking

    As I began out my adolescence, I had an active niche-picking environment because both of my parents were active and constantly took my family out to do activities together but as soon as I hit my senior year in High School, I realized that what I had was more of passive niche-picking. I became my own person at the near end of my adolescence, I finally understood what kind of environment that was healthy for me. I was different than the rest of my family as soon as I figured it out.
  • 6.1- parent adolescent conflict

    I remember when I experienced conflict around the time of my self-concept development. Around 2010, the year I was heading to college. My parents were badgering me about how I needed to be independent and what I needed to expect. I told them I expected myself to be independent and that I did not need their help. They used my everyday habits at home against me. I told them that my life was about to change. I would have created different stability. They were empty nesters. It was emotional.
  • 7.3 - Intrinsic Motivation

    It was not until around the date of my graduation that I became so determined in reaching my goals. I became more curious about what I really wanted to do with my life. I decided to do research on different kinds of majors and different kinds of jobs. This was the peak of my self-determination. During college, I changed my major three times and finally landed with Psychology because I was still determined to find what major fit me best. And I am about to declare my major in Psychology.
  • 7.2 - transition to college

    Autonomy, stress, & exploration are the three major things in duration of this transition. During the transition, I slowly developed a sense of self-control. I learned to manage the amount of stress because it was increasing. My opportunity for exploration broadened because I was able to make my own choices, I had the chance to experiment with my options that I did not have during high school. As soon as I was given the freedom, it was a gateway out of adolescence and into adulthood for me.
  • 1.2 Emerging Adulthood

    I did not emerge into adulthood until I turned twenty-three. Due to a difficult life growing up, it took me longer to come to my senses about responsibilities, accountability, motivation, maturation and identity. The transition was tough and late, but it happened. In the year of 2015, I woke up and owned up to the instability that I had. I have emerged into adulthood fully by now, and I am twenty-four. It also does match the emergence into adulthood mentioned in the text.
