    During the early 1900s in Russia factories doubled. Allowing Russia to become on of the world leaders in the steel industry, and being able to build things like the Trans-Siberian Railway.
    Role in the Revolution: All this would all this economic success would eventually lead to problems with the working class.

    Russo-japanese War
    Russia & Japan had territories over Korea and Manchuria , but Russia broke them. Japan retaliated and attacked Russia and port Arthur, Manchuria in February 1904, the Japanese won.
    Role: Showed weakness to the russian people.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    About 200,000 workers & their families went to Czar's palace in St Petersburg. They asked for more personal freedom, better working conditions, and a elected national legislature. Between 500-1000 people were killed.
    Role: Made people across the country go on strikes, and became violent.

    Nicholas II brought Russia into the war, and Russia wasn't prepared at all. Russia lost over 4 million men to the war. Soldiers ignored orders, supplies were low, and the kept losing.

    Women textile workers led a city wide strike in Petrograd. Soon after that 200,000 also swarmed the streets and soldiers were told to open fire on the crowds, but instead killed the people who were telling them to do that and joined the crowd.
    Role: showed leadership that no one was about the war and the working conditions.

    the local protest turned into a general uprising and forced Czar to abdicate his throne. Provisional gonvernment headed Alexander who decide to stay in the war and by doing that he lost the trust of the people and military.
    Role: made conditions in Russia even worse.

    Civil war raged, USA sent aid to to help the white army. !5 million people died from fighting, hunger, and flu. Left Russia in chaos,. Red army eventually crushed all opposition to Bolsheuik rule.

    New Economic Policy/ Political Reforms
    Allowed peasants to sell their surplus of crops, and allowed people to sell and buy good for profit. Government kept control of major industries, and means of communications. farms and factories were also doing good like they were before the war.
