Broken agreements lead to attacks
Japan and Russia came together to make an agreement over territories in Korea and Manchuria. Unfortunately, The Russians broke the agreements. Japan attacked the Russians at Port Arthur, Manchuria. -
Bloody Sunday
Around 20,000 workers, along with their families, marched to the Czar's palace in St.Petersburg. They carried a petition asking for better work conditions, and elected national legislature, as well as more personal freedom. The General ordered the soilders to fire at the citizens, wounding 1,00 and leaving several hundred killed. This event was then refered to "Bloody Sunday". -
Russia's First Parliament
The meeting of Russians first parliament, the Duma, was constructed in May, 1906. The leaders of the Duma were moderates that wanted a constitutional monarchy, like the British had. Although, the Czar disbanded the Duma after 10 weeks. -
Russia Enters World War I
An unprepared and scared Russian entered the first World War. Many were against this due to the Russians not ready to handle the military and economic costs. Before one year of the war four million Russian soilders died, were wounded, or were taken as prisoners. -

Women textile workers storm into the streets of Petrograd to lead a citywide strike. They run through the streets screaming, "Down with the autocracy!" and "Down with the war!". -
The Storming of the Winter Palace
Armed factory workers, called Bolshevik Red Guards, stormed into the Winter Palace in Petrograd. The workers took ou the government offices and arrested leaders of the provisional government. Kerensky and his colleagues hide from the Red Guards. -
Signing of the Treaty
Russia and Germany signed the treaty of Brest-Litovsk. Russia ended up surrenduring a lot of territory to German and the German allies. -
Tragedies of the civil war
The civil war raged on in Russia. Many countries, such as the United States, tried to send help but that unfortunately did not work. Tragically, 14 million were killed from the three years of fighting and famine. -
New Economy Forms
Russia resorted to a small-scale version of Capitolism called "New Economic Policy." This allowed farmers to sell crops freely rather than having to give the crops to the government. -
Trotsky Vs Stalin
Lenin had a stroke in December. Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin worked hard to get up to power. Stalin (man in the picture) ended up winning and went to the head of the commmunist government. After this happens, Stalin causes much terror to Russia.
