    The Decembrist was a small group of nobles and amy officers that tried to overthrow the czars government. They hoped to set up a constitutional monarcy. When Nicholas 1 found out, he responed with brutal repression. He banned books from the west that might contain illegal ideas.

    Nicholas ii becomes Czar of Russia
    Nicholas was neither trained nor inclined to rule. Nicholas iis handling of Bloody Sunday and World War I incensed his subjects and led to his abdication. Bolsheviks killed him on July 17, 1918, in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

    In St. Petersburg, Georgry led and marched to czars winter palaces. Imperial forces opened fire on the demonstraturs killing and wounding hundreds. People being killed strikes and riots brokeout throughout the country. Nicholas also got the nickname "Bloody Nicholas".

  • The March Revolution

    The March Revolution
    The March Revoltuion was an eight day "strike." In the beginning, Russian workers could not pay for food so they demanded a 50% wage increase so that they could buy food. The management refused so they went on strike. Nicholas was informed about the situation and ordered that the riots should be put down by March 10th. The Duma disobeyed Nicholas. This is usually considered the first act of the Russian Revolution.

    Following Russian struggles in WW1, there was an uprising in Pertograd and the army joining workers. Czar is forced to abdicate his throne and is arrested by the Bosheviks controlley soivets. Nicholas and his family are taken to Yekaterinburg and killed.

    Disagreement over the traty of Brest-Lytousk leads to spirt between the Mensheviks (whites) and the Bolsheviks (reds). The Civil war leaves much of Russia in the ruins. The result in death is mroe then 6 million people. The white army was defeated.
