Nicholas II had a major stepback at the battlefront, and lost many men, wasted resources, and basically destroyed the Empire, so he was told that it was better to abdicate. He decided to do so. -

Marxist Party rises to power under Lenin
Lenin returned to Russia after almost 20 years in exile, and tok control of the Bolshevik part of the party. He fought against the White Army in the Russian Civil War, and won, so the communists took control of Russia in 1921. -

Communist Society
The communist society was a total failure at the start of the model. There was a drought and also an industrial collapse hit the country. Many people complained. -

The members of the Politburo struggled for power. Leon Trotsky for the left, who proposed to end the NEP, continue revolution, and spread communism. The right proposed the opposite, and to establish a socialist state. -

Stalin, the sec-gen of the party, expelled Trotsky in 1927, and by 1929, he eliminated the old Bolsheviks, and established a dictatorship.
