Napoleon's Invasion of Russia
Napoleon invasded to punish Czar Alexander I for leaving the Continental System. Napoleon planned to win the war quickly, and Czar knew that would happen. So he created a strategy of "running away" whenever the French were close. Eventually, the Frence army grew weak from a lack of supplies and only about 1/6 of them made it back to france alive. -
Russo-Japanese War
This was a war over Manchuria, Korea, and the seas around them. Russia wanted a warm-water port that would be functional year round for trade with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, Russia was defeated and Japan's Army was considered a threat on the world stage. -
World War l
Russia joined the war to protect there allies, Serbia. It was estimated that over 6 million Russians died. In 1917, Russia transformed to the world’s first communist government under the control of Vladimir Lenin. -

Russia was invaded by by Hitler's German Army as part of 'Operation Barbarossa', which was the largest invasion in the history of warfare. After four brutal years, Hitler was defeated and Germany was divided into four different parts. -
Cold War
It was called the Cold War because there was no active war between the U.S. and USSR. They were both affraid that it would escalate into a nuclear war. Another reason for the war was the Soviets idea of spreading communism worldwide. In 1991, Communism in Russia ended and the U.S. became the sole superpower of the world. -
Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan
The Soviet Union invaded in support of the Afghan communist government in its conflict with anticommunist Muslim guerrillas during the Afghan War and remained in Afghanistan until mid-February 1989. -
Wars with Chechnya
Russian federal forces attempted to take control of the area of Chechnya but were overwhelmed by Chechen guerrilla warfare and attacks on the flatlands in spite of Russia's colossal manpower, weaponry, and air support. -
Russia's War with Georgia
Georgia launched a large military offensive against South Ossetia, who Russia vowed to support. This was an attempt to take back the land.Russia called in precision air strikes, which made Georgia retreat. After a week of fighting, each side signed a ceasefire agreement.
