  • The Beginning

    In 1917, 107 Glassboro residents raised over $7,000 to purchase 25 acres, which they offered to the state for free if the borough were selected as the site.
  • Opening

    Glassboro normal school opened with 236 students arriving by train to convene in the school's first building.
  • Four Year School

    The program was expanded to four years in 1934
  • Name Change

    The college changed it name to the New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro.
  • Adding on

    Dr. Thomas Robinson, the third president of the college, expanded the curriculum increased enrollment and added several buildings to the campus
  • Name change

    The school's name was changed to Glassboro State College to better reflected its mission.
  • Expanding

    The university opened a campus in Camden to expand its educational services.
  • Division III Champs

    In baseball they won the Division III national Championship.
  • Change of Name

    Henry Rowan and his wife Betty donated $100 million to the institution, then the largest gift ever to a public college or university. Later that year, the school changed its name to Rowan College of New Jersey to recognize the benefactors' generosity.
  • Another name change

    The college achieved University status in 1997 and changed its name to Rowan University under Dr. James' leadership.
