    The Red Sox lost a heartbreaking Game 7 of the ALCS to the hated rival, the New York Yankees. The Red Sox manager, Grady Little, decided to not take out star pitcher, Pedro Martinez in the 8th inning. This led to 3 runs for the Yankees that tied the game. In the 11th inning, Aaron Boone hit a walk-off home run off of Tim Wakefield. Thus ending the promising 2003 season for the Red Sox.

    To add another established pitcher and improve the team, the Red Sox traded for Curt Schilling from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Curt is quoted to saying, "I want to be a part of bringing the first World Series in modern history to Boston and hopefully more than one over the next four years." Little did he know how true those words were.

    After failing to bring the Red Sox to the World Series due to questionable decisions, the Red Sox fired Grady Little and hired new manager, Terry Francona. Francona had some previous experience with the Phillies as manager. This meant that he had already managed his new star pitcher, Curt Schilling, for three years in Philadelphia.

    On July 24, 2004, the Red Sox and Yankees played a regular season game. Bronson Arroyo hits Alex Rodriguez. This started a brawl between A-Rod and Jason Varitek. This brawl showed the hatred and tension between the two teams. The Sox miss out on trading for the highly praised A-Rod during the offseason. The Yankees were able to complete the trade and get him. Another win over the Red Sox.
  • The Trade Deadline

    In his second year as GM, the young Theo Epstien had a busy day during the trade deadline. The biggest news was that he traded fan favorite, Nomar Garciaparra, to the Cubs as a part of a three way deal. The Red Sox got back Orlando Cabrera form the Cubs and Doug Mienkiewicz from the Twins. This trade solidified the defense of the Sox. Epstien also made a smaller trade for speedster, Dave Roberts. Both of these trades had a significant impact on the team down the road.
  • The ALDS

    The trades kicked the team into high gear and allowed the Red Sox to win the Wild Card. In the first round of the Playoffs, the Sox were matched up against the 2002 World Series Champion, Anahiem Angels. The Red Sox didn't care. The Sox swept the Angels in three games. The third game ended with a David Ortiz walk-off home run. This would not be his last.

    After losing the first two games in Yankees Stadium, the Red Sox went back home to Fenway to hopefully gain momentum back in the ALCS. This didn't happen. The Sox went on to lose the game 19-8. There was not much hope for the Sox. It looked to be another very long offseason.

    Bottom of the 9th. No outs. Red Sox losing 4-3. The best closer to ever play, Mariano Rivera, on the mound. The Red Sox are dead in the water. Kevin Millar draws a walk. Dave Roberts comes in to pinch run. Roberts steals second. Bill Mueller then brings him in with a single to tie the game. In extra innings, David Ortiz hits his second walk-off home run of the post season. There is life in the Sox.
  • Game 5

    David Ortiz does it yet again. This time it was just a single in the 14th inning to win the game. The Red Sox were again pushed to the brink and fought back to make the Yankees win it at home.
  • Red Sox win the ALCS

    After the heroics of Curt Schilling with his bloody sock in Game 6. The Red Sox push the Yankees to a do or die Game 7. No team in baseball history has come back from a 0-3 deficit to win the series 4-3. Records are made to be broken. The Sox won the game 10-3 to bring them back to the Fall Classic.
  • Faith Rewarded

    Faith Rewarded
    After beating the Yankees in the ALCS, the Sox went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in four games capturing their first World Series in 86 years. The Curse of the Bambino has been bronken. The Red Sox have won two more Championships (2007, 2013) since this game.
