Road To Revolution

  • 1) Treaty of Paris

    This treaty ended the Revolutionary War and noticed American freedom.
  • 2) Proclamation Act

    The Proclamation Act, issued by the king, preventing colonies from expanding their land to the west. The boundary for the colonists was the Appalachian Divide.
  • 3) Sugar Act

    This act put a tax price on sugar that would be collected by British military to increase their income.

    This act required all colonists to pay a tax for every piece of printed paper they used. The money made from the tax was supposed to be used to pay for the troops guarding the Appalachian mountains.

    This act required colonists to house British soldiers in barracks. Barracks were houses made for the soldiers to live in provided by the colonies.

    The Stamp Act Congress, also known as the First Congress of the American Colonies, was a meeting held that elected representatives from the American colonies came together to protest against British taxation.
  • 7) Declaration of Rights and Grievances

    This is the document that was written by the Stamp Act Congress and it states that taxes imposed on British colonists without their consent is unconstitutional.
  • 8) Stamp Act Repealed

    After a lot of protesting Britain finally repealed the Stamp Act but instead instilled the Declaratory Acts which meant they had total control over the colonies.
  • 9) Declaratory Act

    This act was just a way of the British by saying that they could make any laws they wanted to, including the right to tax.
  • 10) Townshend Act

    This act enforced by the king was a tax on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea on the colonists.
  • 11) Boston Massacre

    On this day, a group of British soldiers were walking the street and were getting snowballs hit by snowballs and opened fire, killing 5 people.

    This is what the thirteen colonies called themselves in rebellion to the British.
  • 13) Tea Act

    This act was a tax on tea on the colonists that led the colonists to rebellion, which is called the Boston Tea Party.

    This day Boston colonists disguised as Indians and threw 3 ships full of tea into the Boston harbor to protest against the taxes colonists got on tea from the king.

    The Intolerable Acts are the harsh laws that the British passed for colonists. They were made to punish to American colonists because of the Boston Tea Party and other protests that they had.

    This petition is made to avoid a full-on war and it says that the colonists just want peace between them and England. When presented to the King he actually refused the petition.
  • 18) Lexington & Concord

    The Battles of Lexington & Concord kick started the American Revolutionary War by being the first military engagements.
  • 19) Bunker Hill

    The battle of Bunker Hill was fought during the early months of the Revolutionary War. It happened because Boston was being besieged and the British were trying to control the city.
  • 20) Common Sense

    Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet explaining that it's common sense that America should have independence from Great Britain.
  • 21) Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence is a document stating the freedom of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain. It holds a introduction, their beliefs, the grievances they have, and a conclusion.
