Treaty of Versailles
This was a treaty the fomally ended World War 1. It was signed by Germany and the Allied Powers. The treaty required that Germany pays reparations for war damage, weakens their military, and lose some of their territory. The economic hardships and resentment of citizens from the treaty helped get the Nazi Party support, leading to them winning many elections and Adolf Hitler becoming Chancellor. -
Mussolini becomes fascist leader of Italy
Mussolini wanted political power. So he organized the ¨March on Rome¨ and the thought behind this was to make the king to give the government to Mussolini. Not long after this, Benito Mussolini was appointed prime minister.
This event was very significant in Italy´s empowerment because it gave extreme power to a very extreme, fascist dictator. -
Mein Kampf is published
This book was an Autobiography written by Adolf Hitler while in Landsberg Prison. In it, he talked about his plans with Germany and what he wanted to do.
This book was significant in the empowerment of Germany because it showed Hitler´s plan well before any of it happened. -
Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany
With the political and economic instability, the people started to side with the Nazi party. From support of the conservative elite, Hindenburg (the president) appointed Adolf Hitler the Chancellor Position.
This is the most significant event in leading to empowerment of Germany. It gave power to the most extreme person in the world. This was the start of all the bad things that happened in Germany. -
Night of the Long Knives” Hitler consolidates power
Adolf Hitler ordered his guards to kill all of the SA leadership and other political opponents because he thought they had became too powerful.
This was very impactful in the empowerment of Germany because it made Hitler the supreme leader of Germany. And took out all of the people that could take his place. -
Italy invades Ethiopia
Italy wanted to strengthen and expand it´s empire. So they decided that they wanted to control Ethiopia. Italy did win and gained control of Ethiopia until 1941.
This was significant in the empowerment of Italy because it helped expand Italy´s control and territory. -
Japan Invades China
Japan, wanting raw materials to fuel it´s industries. Japan decided they were going to invade China.
This was significant in the empowerment of Japan because it showed they wanted to become a world power. -
Japanese Rape of Nanjing
It was the mass murder of Chinese civilians in Nanjing, the capital of the Republic of China, immediately after the Battle of Nanking in the Second Sino-Japanese War, by the Imperial Japanese Army. -
Germany and Italy sign the Pact of Steel
The Pact of Steel linked Germany and Italy both militarily and politicaly.
This was significant in the empowerment of both Germany and Italy because it made both countries have people that will go to war with them. -
Germany invades Poland, beginning World War II
Nazis accused Poland of persecuting Germans living in Poland. Germany did not like this and wanted to show that they were superior, so they invaded Poland.
This was significant in Germany´s empowerment because it showed how dominant Germany wanted to be. -
Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact
This was a pact signed by the three countries that created a defense alliance between the countries and was largely intended to deter the United States from entering the conflict.
This was significant in all three countries empowerment because it gave them people that would be by their sides if anything went wrong.
