    Anton Drexler forms the German Workers' Party (DAP) on January 5, 1919. Adolf Hitler later joins the party at the age of 30. The German Workers' Party was a short-lived predecessor of the Nazi Party. On February 20, 1924 the DAP was renamed to NSDAP (Nationalist Socialist German Workers' Party).

    The DAP placed an advertisement in an anti-Semitic newspaper in Munich and at Hitler's insistence, they moved the public meeting to a beer cellar that would hold about a hundred. The other committee members were concerned they might have trouble filling the place, but just over a hundred showed up at the meeting.

Using the ‘Legend of the Dagger-Stab in the Back’, the Nazis were successful in creating a strong sense of anti-semitism and racism, necessary for the party to remain powerful and avoid all Jewish and Communist influences.

    A new Nazi Youth Party was established and headed by Gustav Lenk. In May 1922 Lenk held a beer hall meeting in Munich, to officially proclaim the foundation of League. The Nazi Youth League was formally established small units were created in Nuremberg and other cities.

    On September 14, 1930 German’s elect Nazi’s into office by receiving 6,371,000 votes (over 18 percent). This meant that they gained a total of 107 seats in the German Reichstag. This made the Nazi Party go from the smallest political party to the second largest political party in Germany.

    An arsonist named Marinus van der Lubbe, 24, from Holland, had been wandering around Berlin for a week attempting to burn government buildings to protest capitalism and start a revolt. Other than van der Lubbe, several Nazi storm troopers who made an alliance with van der Lubbe were involved with torching the Reichstag building.

    With major propaganda going on in the Political Parties for the re-election for President of Germany, the vote landed in the favor of the Nazis and Adolf Hitler. Although Hitler did not get the majority he wanted (only gaining 44 percent, a total of over 17,000,000), he still won the election. The rise of dictatorship in Germany was now in reach because of this win in the election.

    The role of women in Nazi Germany was very simple. Women should be good mothers by bringing up children at home while their husbands worked. Hitler didnot want women working during his reign of power. In Weimar Germany there had been 100,000 female teachers, 3000 female doctors and 13,000 female musicians. Within months of Hitler coming into power many women with jobs were fired.

    The Death of Hitler
    On April 30th Hitler killed both himself and his wife of two days. He killed himself just 10 days after his birthday and seven days before the Germans surrendered. Hitler commited suicide because the Red Army was drawing closer to him and his wife, so he decided to spare humiliation of the enemy killing him.
