  • Paul revere's midnight ride

    On the night of April 18th 1775 Paul Revere took a midnight ride. The purpose of his ride was to alert the colonists that “The British are coming”. This warning was useful because it allowed the people to prepare for battle before the arrival of the British.
  • Lexington and concord

    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the battles that kicked off the Revolutionary war. These battles occurred the day after Paul Revere took his midnight ride. After killing seven Americans on Lexington green, the British moved on to concord for another battle.
  • George Washington's selection as commander in chief

    George Washington was selected as commander in chief on June 15 1775 over candidates such as john hancock. He was elected because of his experience with the military and with the hope that he could unite the 13 colonies.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was a turning point for the colonists. The success of this battle gave the colonists hope to push harder and later win the war and gained freedom from Britain.
  • Valley forge

    Valley forge was a military camp that housed the colonists for the long harsh winter of 1777. Diseased spread throughout the camp and resources became scarce. Some soldiers went without shoes or protection from the bitter cold.
  • Surrender at yorktown

    A British general surrendered his 8,000 troops to the colonists in Yorktown. The British soldiers were expecting help from ships sent from New York, no ships ever arrived.
  • Treaty of Paris 1783

    The treaty of Paris was signed in Paris by representatives of King George of Great Britain and and American representatives and the document declared the end of the Revolutionary War and the freedom of the United States.
