    First Indochina War

    The U.S. saw Vietnam as another Korea. That when the U.S. stepped in and started getting involved the government send more aid to prevent investment being lost. U.S. politicians believed in the "Domino Theory" once one falls for communism the other follows and the U.S. AK Eisenhower was trying to prevent that.
  • Geneva Accords

    Eisenhower is worried about the events in Vietnam because it's been going on too long and American soldiers suffered and the heading off draft shall happen. The goals of this conference were to intend to settle outstanding issues resulting from Korea war and Indonesian war.
  • Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)

    The goal was to contain any communist aggression in the free territories of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia or south-east Asia in general,good to Americans because communism was made in the U.S. and is spreading.
  • Viet Cong begins to attack on Diem's governement

    America can be conflicted in a negative way by the attack and damage being too much and hurting due to the war lasting too long so the U.S. try to withdraw.

    Goal: To establish economic cooperation between the U.S. and Latin America
    Fail: Growing population of Latin America required more money than the United States could give, corrupt politicians misused the money
  • Kennedy's visit to Berlin

    Purpose to Kennedy's Visit: To deliver a speech in Berlin to express his hopes for the reunification of Germany and shows solidarity with the crowd when he says, "I take pride in the words: Ich ein Berliner."
    Consequences of the Berlin Speech: Berlin wall which caused to the separation of families.

    Containment: American policy of resisting further expansion of communism around the world.
  • "Stay the Course"

    What President Johnson meant by saying America will still on the course was not to give up until the goal is reach, he thought that it would help in gaining control and power if he keeps the troops in Vietnam but it caused many problems.
  • Kennedy is assassinated

    Kennedy's plan was to begin to withdrawn American troops from Vietnam in 1965, but was assassinated before this could happen.
  • Allows covert operations against North Vietnam

  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    President Johnson signed a secret National Security Council "finding" which allowed the U.S. to convert operations against North Vietnam in 1964. The resolution was increasing the U.S. involvement in Vietnam. He lied to Congress and have them signed the resolution by stating that the North Vietnamese attacked our troops.

    Increase the American troop involvement

    The consequences of increasing the number of troops that are sent were deadly. 58,000 US soldiers were killed and more than 303,000 wounded; 1.4 million Vietnamese were killed.
  • Tet Offensive

    Public dissatisfaction with the war and US policy were at its peak. Many riots back home in America, majority of Americans wanted our troops to return home. Americans wanted to impeach President Johnson.
  • Johnson announces he will not seek re-election

    Johnson decided not to run for re-election because the US House of Representatives impeached him. President Johnson was the first president ever in US history to be impeached.
  • Compulsory draft implemented

    The government had to implement the draft because they needed soldiers. The support that the draft have is that some soldiers support it the war but some soldiers thought that it was a death sentence.
  • Vietnamization

    The goal for the Nixon doctrine was the “Vietnamization” plan where he was going to American troops would be slowly taking out and be replaced by South Vietnamese troops, in the Southeast Asian conflict.
  • 'Silent Majority' speech

    The 'silent majority' Nixon referred to was the antiwar protesters. He felt that it was important to address the group because he wanted them to support him in his goal.
  • My lai Massacre

    The impact of the events have on support of the war was that it reduced the public support of the war they wondered if American soldiers were doing more harm than good. The support for the returning soldiers was kind of low but they wanted to know who was in charge of the massacre so they had to interview all of the soldiers.
  • Withdrawal of troops begins

    It changed the strategy in Vietnam by giving the South Vietnamese the training and weapons needed to effectively control the war.
  • 26th Amendment

    The role that the Vietnam war have is that if they are old enough to be drafted then they are old enough to have the right to vote.
  • Christmas Bombings

    Nixon ordered the bombing to break the stalemate. The result of the Christmas Bombings was the LineBacker 2, the final Treaty Peace Treaty, and the bombings forced the North Vietnamese back to the negotiating table.
