Abraham Lincoln
Before the war ended, Lincoln wanted to start planing for reconstruction. His idea was to rebuild the former confederate states and reunite the nations, north and south. Even though his efforts will be noted, with Reconstruction and the Emancipation Procolmation, he was sadly shot on April 14th, 1865. -
Andrew Johnson
Resulting in President Lincoln's death, Johnson had to take over the presidency. Trying to follow through with Lincolns idea, he tried to reenforce reconstruction. Shortly after he announced that he pardoned all rebels and all who were independent. -
Uylsses S. Grant
When Grant was up for election he wasnt too political savvy but he was a war hero. Scandles broke out during both of his terms. His first term Jay Gould and James Fisk tried to take control of the gold market. During his second term controversays started over the tax of whiskey. Resulting in this the Treasury Department were charged with taking bribes from dealers of whiskey. -
Rutherford B. Hayes
While fighting in the Civil War Hayes was wounded several times. In 1877 the first year of his presidency, Hayes banned federal employees from being a part of political campagins. The presidential election when he ran for president was very disputed and close. Alothough Tilden won the popular vote, Hayes got the electorial votes. -
William McKinley
Mckinley was saught out to be be a joke. After he was elected he was initially worried about the Cuban Army, to his suspicion shortly after the U.S.S Maine sunk. McKinley had political experience before the election, serving as Ohios representative of the Republican National Comittee. -
Theodore Roosevelt
Resulting in McKinley's death, Roosevelt was the youngest president ever in history. His was mainly discovered by a dillusion of the combing of a railroad. One of his greatest achievements was conservation, he added land to the west, inhabited good irrigation projects and reserved land for publis usage. -
William Howard Taft
Taft was not a good politician, spending four uncomfortable years in the white house. Once in office a postal saving process was adopted and the ICC established railroad rights. Also, he as well as the others that followed, strived to fulfill Roosevelts goal of construction. Along with his successes he defreated the Payne-Aldrich Tarrifs. -
Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson was an essential part of the league of nations. Coming out with a speech called "the Fourteen Parts" that he believed would advoid future wars. Shortly after Wilson signed the Treaty of Versallies that went a complete opposite way of the fourteen parts. Eventaully the Leaders voted against it. -
Warren G. Harding
Warren G. Harding was caught up in a gang called the Ohio gang. Associating with his old friends he confessed that the job was too challenging for him to handle. He liked recognized for being better and more successful rather then being a leader. He will forever be known as the president that pawned off his work on to his secretaries. -
Calvin Coolidge
While Coolidge was in office, he refused to take care of population boom. Coolidge had a way with words that made him legandary. Right after he retired, the Great Depression set in.
