1890's
The very first radio was invented by the Italian inventor known as Guglielmo Marconi. More of a draft and still a work in progress when he first constructed it, it wasn't until 1895 that Marconi sent out the first message using Morse Code that was sent to another wireless telegraph less than a kilometer away. -
1900's
Reginald Fessenden was the first man to use the radio and conduct the worlds first public broadcast where he sang Oh Holy Night and read passages from the Bible. Fessenden then influenced others to establish radio towers and the necessary equipment needed to also make public broadcasts. -
1920's
It wasn't until during World War One that the population started using the radio more frequently. During Wartime, the radio was used to transmit messages in morse code and that was mainly it, wasn't until after the war that the radio was started to be used more heavily to transmit with ships and planes for communication. Once communication was established, the radio began to evolve into an entertainment device playing music and other radio broadcasts similar to Fessenden. -
1937
With the Radio continuing to evolve in its role, so did its audience. Still being used for communication, many began listening to entertainment programs being broadcasted where families would all sit in front of the radio and listen to a skit performed by actors and or commentators commentation on sporting games -
1940's
With Radio being the most popular form of entertainment bringing music, news, skits, and commentary shows to its audience, it still was lacking one element for its portrayal on its audience which was the visual aspect. The motion Picture was invented in 1895 not long after the radio, however it still was in early development. The radio set the stage for public entertainment and expectations which allowed the television and motion picture to slowly move in and provide visual entertainment. -
1950's to today
From the first development of the, many aspects of it have been improved from how to send and receive signals which the television then later adapted. The radio was the perfect broadcast system providing communication and entertainment. Even after the television took over, radios were still heavily used but not as they used too. Still being used for music, commentary, news and others, the tv stepped in front with it's visual element.
