  • Jun 29, 992

    Pre-World War I

    Boleslaw 1 proclaims the kingdom of Poland. In the 19th,century Poland was no longer an independent State.
  • World War I

    Poland was controlled by Russia until Germany invaded Poland in 1914. Most of the battles on the Eastern Front occurred in Poland.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    On June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed and Poland was recognized as an independent State, Marshal Josef Pilsudski became Head of State.
  • World War II

    1938 - Nazis and the Soviet Union invaded Poland. Poland suffers some of the worst losses of any nation of lives during WWII.
  • Yalta Conference

    In February of 1945, the Allied powers gave Poland to Soviet influence. The exiled Polish Government was lied to by the United States and the United Kingdom about the influence of the Soviet Union. (Winston Churchill told the Polish Government in exile they would have a free and independent country, free from foreign influence)
  • 50s, 60s, and 70s - Poland was under heavy Soviet influence.

    In March of 1968, there was an uprising of students protesting the actions of the government that were that was suppressed by the government. Later the government of Poland accused the Jewish population of a ''larger plot'' to overthrow them. This resulted in most of the Jewish population feeling to Israel.
  • Solidarity

    Solidarity occurs in 1980.
