    On May, 14 Jamestwon was founded. This is important because it was one of the first successful permanent English settlement in what would become the United States.
  • Pocahontas and John Smith

    Pocahontas and John Smith
    On May 14 when Pocahontas visits Jamestown she meets John Smith. On December 5, 1607 John Smith is captured by the Powhatan men. This event is important because Pocahontas herorically saves Smith when he could of possibly been executed.

    Durung the Winter, English men visited Powhatan tribes to trade beads and other things for more corn. This is important because the settlers were demanding for more food and the english were threatening the tribes and burning towns to get it, which caused many conflicts.

    In fall of 1609, John Smith leaves Virgina after being injured in an explosion and heads back to England for medical care. This event is important because peole told Pocahontas that he was dead, so she stopped visiting people in the English settlement.

    Pocahontas was taken from Jamestown to another English settlement known as Henricus. During her captivity, Pocahontas was converted to Christianity and was baptized. Her name when she was baptized was also known as Rebecca.

    During the wars, Pocahontas is captured by captain Samuel Argall, Argall and his men tricked Pocahontas into boarding Argall's ship and captured her as an English prisoner. This event is important because he demanded the release of the english prisoners and supplies held by Powhatan, Powhatan fails to do anything and Pocahontas remains in captivity.

    Pocahontas marries John Rolfe and on January 30, 1615 she gave birth to Thomas Rolfe. This event is important because their marriage created a period of peace between the colonists and Powhatan.

    In 1616, Pocohontas became a symbol of Indian religious conversion, one of the stated goals of the Virginia Company. This event is important because The company decided to bring Pocahontas to England as a symbol of the New World "savage".

    When Pocahontas was on a ship that only went as far at Gravesend, Pocahontas becae ill of a sickness and died.
  • Second Anglo- Powhatan war

    (1622-1632) After the First Anglo-Powhatan War (1609–1614), that ended with the marriage of Pocahontas and John Rolfe, the English colony began to grow. On March 22, 1622, Opechancanough contributed in many attacks on settlements from Jamestown, killing nearly 1/3 of the English population. This event was important because it was a long war and caused many conflicts.
