Nuremberg Trials
22 Nazi leaders were charged with waging a war of aggression. Also accused of committing "crimes against humanity" - the murder of 11 million people. Hermann Goring, the commander of the Luftwaffe; Rudolf Hess, Hitler's former deputy; and other high-ranking Nazi leaders remained to face the charges. Goring received a death sentence, but ended up committing suicide. The bodies of the executed were burned at the concentration camp of Dachau. They used the same ovens used in the Holocaust. -

Also known as Victory in Europe Day, VE Day was a public holiday, that celebrated the defeat of the Nazi war machine. -

The first Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, from a B-29 Bomber. The population of Hiroshima was wiped out by 90 percent, killing almost 80,000 people instantly. -
