  • Plant the Flag

    The British flag is planted in the middle of Australia by an explorer. At this time the Anangu people began to see white people in the dessert. 1870 more explorers arrive to make more maps.

  • A town called Stuart

    Station owners start to attack Anangu people off their land. The Arrente were being pushed out of their area around Todd River. The first man travelled from Adelaide to Darwin by bicycle.
  • Going to School in Stuart

    In 1901 there were about ten British people living in Stuart.1903 there are 45 students at Hermannsburg. 1910 the government gives more of the land that is the Anangu as pastoral leases. In 1914 next to the local police Station a school open in a timber and iron building. World War 1 starts Germany and Australia are at war. 1918 World war one ends.
  • The Drought

    1920 the Anangu people are finding it hard to survive during the long drought. 1926 due to bad drought Pastor Albrecht arrived. 1931 Lasseter leads an expedition to look for gold in the desert. 1931 Lasseter died. 1935 the mission built a pipeline to bring water to vegetable gardens. 1939 World War 2 began.
  • New Settlement

    1945 World War 2 ended. 1946 new settlement was established for the Warlpiri people at Woomera. In 1947 some scientists began to test rockets and missiles at Woomera.
  • Papunya School Starts

    Papunya school is started. The Anangu people tell the stories of the country. Senior men painted a Honey Ant Mural at Papunya school. The Western Dessert Art Movement begins. 1972 the land rights flag flies in Canberra at the Aboriginal Embassy.
