    The United States sinks their first Japanese warship off the coast of Mare Island. They used a submarine to bomb the warship. The USS Gudgeon launched 3 torpedoes to take it down.

Squadrons of the U.S. torpedo planes and dive bombers from Enterprise, Yorktown, and Hornet attack and destroy 4 Japanese carriers, dive bombers, and torpedo planes. They also damage a cruiser and 2 destroyers. The U.S. loses Yorktown.
