Othello's Changes

  • 1 CE

    Powerful

When people talk about Othello they respect him as general and a leader. Duke requests his presence to help with the war. The Duke says, "Valiant Othello, we must straight employ you
    Against the general enemy Ottoman."
  • 1 CE

    Out cast

Othello feels like an out cast when Barbantio doubted that his daughter, Desdemona, would marry Othello of her own free will. He says that Desdemona is bound by "chains of magic." Barbantio calls Othello, "sooty" and says to him, "thou hast practiced on her with foul charms."
  • 1 CE

    In Love

Othello is very much in love with Desdemona. Othello says, "I love the gentle Desdemona." Later he says, "Perdition catch my soul
But I do love thee! And when I love thee not Chaos is come again."
  • 2

    Jealous

Iago is pretending to warn Othello about something going on between Desdemona and Cassio. Othello begins to become suspicious and Iago says, "Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy!
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
    The meat it feeds on."
  • 2

    Being Manipulated

Iago is using Othello to get his revenge. Iago says, "Till I am evened with him, wife for wife. Or, failing so, yet that I put the Moor At least into a jealousy so strong That judgment cannot cure."
  • 4

    Angry

Iago transforms Othello's passions from love to hatred. Othello says' "Ay, let her rot and perish and be damned tonight, for she shall not live. No, my heart is turned to stone. I strike it and it hurts my hand. Oh, the world hath not a sweeter creature, she might lie by an emperor’s side and command him tasks." Othello says this after Iago informed Othello about the handkerchief and lied to him, saying that Desdemona was sleeping with Cassio for real.
  • 5

    Crazy

Iago makes him think it is a good idea to manipulate Othello into killing his wife. Othello agrees, "Therefore confess thee freely of thy sin, For to deny each article with oath Cannot remove nor choke the strong conception That I do groan withal. Thou art to die."
  • 5

    Regret

Othello realizes shortly after he murders his wife, that it was a mistake. Othello says, "O fool! fool! fool!... Of one not easily jealous, but being wrought, Perplexed in the extreme... I kissed thee ere I killed thee. No way but this, Killing myself, to die upon a kiss." Othello comes to the realization that killing Desdemona was competently wrong. He then new that he was a fool and shouldn't have listened to Iago. Then he kills himself to be with his wife and regrets all of his bad decisions.
