  • Piper

Piper Chapman is young woman who ends up in prison because of her bad girlfriend, Alex Vause. In the first picture Piper is in a glowing scene with a lot of whites implying some purity in Piper.
  • Piper

The next screenshot is also Piper in the shower but I wanted to show the contrast that color can do. This shot is dull and lacks luster kind of how Piper's character is feeling. She is now changing because she's upset to be in prison.
  • Piper Season 2

Piper has gotten a little used to the prison life now. The colors in this shot represent Pipers perspective more than emotion. The black bars are blocking our view like the bars are preventing her from leaving.
  • Piper Season 3

This is the most colorless shot of the series potentially. Welcome to the "Shu." This is solitary. The colors are dull and only gray which is typically associated with emotionless, dirty, and dingy just how Piper is feeling.
  • Alex Vause 1

This is first time Alex is introduced to the show. White and blue are signs of happiness and love. A great representation for what used to be..
  • Alex Vause 2

I'd like to point out Alex's hair. Alex is the bad girl in the story and just by looking at her you know it. For me I thought it was because she looked tall but it is her black hair that really conveys her personality and agenda to me.
  • Alex vause Season 3

Yes her hair is still black however her outside in greens and blues alows the viewer to open up to Alex who is now depressed because she can't have Piper as her girlfriend.
  • Conclusion

In all, color has conveyed a lot of moods and personality changes among Piper and Alex. But Piper will always be the good one at heart and Alex will always be bad to the bone. This image captures the white light behind piper giving her a white halo representing good. While Alex is lighted darker and blocks a window allowing no light in her part of the frame. It's a perfect representation of the characters!
