    24th: Red Guard units capture strategic city locations (Bridges, railway station, banks, etc.) There was very little violence.
    Provisional Government did not act 25th: Red Guard troops attack the Winter Palace. Blank shells were fired from the cruiser Aurora, the damage was minimal.
    Provisional Government was arrested, Kerensky managed to escape.
    Lenin announced that power had been passed to the Petrograd Soviet. The Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets opened.
  • Council of People's Commissars (Sovnarkom) announced

    Lenin declared himself the chairman of the new government.
    Mensheviks and SR walked out in protest. "Go where you belong from now on - into the dustbin of history." (Trotsky)
    Originally consisted of 16 members.
  • Opposition groups attack

    Bolsheviks were being attacked by opposition groups outside of Petrograd, especially Georgia and the Don Region
  • Kerensky attacks

    Kerensky led Cossack Tsarskoye Selo, they fired at troops inside Petrograd. This was disasterous for Kerensky's reputation.
  • Red Guard gains control of Moscow

    After defeating opposition Cossacks, the Bolsheviks gain control of Moscow, there were hundreds of casualties.
  • Lenin announces that Bolsheviks had control

    Despite this announcement the Bolsheviks hold on power was tenuous at best.
