    Chunk 2

Elie has just entered the concentration camp in chunk 2 and he is starting to become more desensitized. He is in decent condition, even after the cattle car trip, and he isn't quite starving yet. Elie questions the humanity of the Germans many times in this part of the story. I think he does this because he is seeing more and more horrors every day he spends in the camp. This is also the first section where Elie questions his faith and starts to get angry towards God.

    Chunk 2 Cont.

Emotionally Elie is also thinking about how terrible the Nazis are and he feels sad for all of the people around him who have to endure the hellish nightmare that these concentration camps were. He also questions his beliefs when his father is hit right in front of him and he doesn't react. He feels like he is becoming more and more desensitized and inhumane while he is in this camp.

    Chunk 4

In chunk 4 Elie is starting to have to constantly fight for his survival. He is starving while having to work hard in these camps. He gets beaten by the Kapo every once and a while for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is starting to think about the hangings and how the Germans are oppressing everyone. He also thinks about how everyone in the camp was so desensitized that they don't feel sadness or care about the hanging ceremonies.

    Chunk 4 Cont.

Elie gives up on God in this part of the book. After seeing the hangings he felt like it would be impossible for God to still be inside the camp.

    Chunk 6

Eliezer at this point in the story only cares about his father. After the death march, he just wants his father to survive until the end because he thinks the end is near. He is also weak from the death march and lack of food and care. I think he doesn't really comment on God in this part because he doesn't believe anymore that God exists. After everything he went through he feels kinda empty, especially after his dad dies. He doesn't even end up commenting on what happened after his dad passed.

    Chunk 6 Cont.

Eliezer doesn't even really seem to care when he is rescued from the camps because he lost the only thing that mattered to him in the end.
