My Personal Timeline

  • Paper and Stylus

    Paper and Stylus
Paper and stylus is one of the most traditional and ancient forms of media. This was the first media I ever used myself. I vaguely remember scribbling on paper with pens and crayons and my parents praising me for my drawing. I think it's the same for most people that pen and stylus as their first media.
  • Camera

    Camera
Camera are used to record moments that happen only once. The first camera I remember encountering was a video camera used by my Dad because I recall seeing a video of my first birthday. I think cameras have really gone a long way from capturing just pictures to taking 4K and 1080p videos.
  • VHS Player

    VHS Player
VHS players are used to play VHS tapes that contained films or cartoons. Back then I remember we didn't have a DVD player and we had a lot of VHS cartoon tapes that my siblings and I watched as kids. When I see VHS tapes or players I can't help but feel nostalgia because I spent about 4-7 years of my childhood watching them. Fun fact, I actually knew how to set it up when I was 5 years old.
  • Books

    Books
Books are the staple source of knowledge in the world. When I was young I used to look at of picture books we had at home as well as the school library in my elementary school. I think that books are a very good way to immerse yourself in knowledge and sometimes I feel sad when I see young kids today not reading books. I believe even the Internet is capable of being false but books are processed and renewed so the information there is more reliable.
  • TV

    TV
Television weren't always flat and smart. When I was young, our TV was big and hard to re-locate. TVs are good source of entertainment and information since news and programs are broadcasted here. I especially look forward during vacation because we would go to my grandparents' houses and that meant one thing-- Cable TV.
  • PC/ Computer

    PC/ Computer
Computers process and store information. I think it's funny sometimes when I look at a modern computer and remember that old computers could fill an entire room. I think that computers are also good information hubs for everyone.
  • Jumpstart

    Jumpstart
Game Applications are mostly use for pleasure and entertainment. The first ever game I played on PC was Jumpstart which was a fun and educational game. The game would teach numbers, letter, ordering and all fun things. Sadly, Jumpstart has lost its popularity but I will surely make my kids play it in the future (haha).
  • Telephone

    Telephone
Telephone are used to communicate even if the distance is big. As a kid, I never used the phone but I remember seeing my parents and siblings use it. I would actually just play with it (got me into trouble). I think telephones will be relevant even in the future, they're just getting smaller every year.
  • Internet Explorer

    Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is the browser of Microsoft. I know this browser has lots of bashers but I used it for a while back then. It was through this that i searched the net for the first time. Hopefully it improves in the future :>
  • Newspaper

    Newspaper
Newspaper have been around as the source of current events in a place. Of course I wasn't able to read, young as I was, but I remember reading the comics section of the paper. Now, I read the newspaper online once a week to be aware of my surroundings and to grasp the current issues of this society.
  • Microsoft

    Microsoft
Microsoft is one of the most well known companies in the world, widely known for their operating system and softwares. I actually didn't use MS Office until elementary but I remember our first PC operated on Microsoft. Today, I use a Mac but I think Microsoft reigns in its ability to operate many programs. I think they really bring innovation in everything they create.
  • Yahoo

    Yahoo
Yahoo is another widely known browsing site. I used Yahoo first than Google. I don't remember much but I knew I liked it because it had a slideshow of news at the home page.
  • Google

    Google
Google is the most widely used browsing site today. Google is the friend of all, especially students. Students search a lot of information here so I really thank this media. If this had not existed, I probably would've failed many times in school
  • Gameboy

    Gameboy
Gameboy is one of the console developed by Nintendo. This was the first ever hand-held gamin console we bought and I remember looking forward to playing it. I learned about retro games through it and even learned about life situations in dome games I played.
  • Cellphone

    Cellphone
Cellphones are mobile computers and telephones together. I remembe playing on my brother's phone a lot and the first ever phone I received was when I was 10 (it is the model in the Picture). Cellphones now are very powerful since they can search the web and even contain powerful cameras to capture pictures.
  • Youtube

    Youtube
Youtube is the leading video platform in the web. Up until now I am an avid user of Youtube both for entertainment and information gathering. I watch tutorial videos and vlogs here. I think it's very successful because it really encourages creators to express themselves to a very wide audience and even news and programs use this platform to make people know about them.
  • Firefox

    Firefox
Firefox is the browser made by Mozilla. When I switched to Mozilla, I was able to browse faster and efficiently. I don't mean to bash Internet Explorer but Mozilla Firefox really has it together.
  • Magazines

    Magazines
Saranggola was a educational magazine for kids that released an edition every month. We subscribed to the edition release and I remember reading the stories and answering the puzzles in the magazine. Even up 'till now I know we have them at home although I am not sure if Saranggola still releases magazines. I think Saranggola is a good source of information especially about moral acts since most of its stories had moral lessons at the end.
  • Letter

    Letter
Letters are compositions made to be sent to another person. In elementary we actually had pen pals from America and we replied to each other a few times. Sadly, I can't find the letters from them but I really hope I could meet them someday. Letters I think have become a formality or art now since most people don't send paper letters anymore but use email/ chats to talk to people and letters of approval and legalities are left.
  • Wii

    Wii
Wii is a gaming console developed by Nintendo. Actually, we don't own one but a friend of mine had one and he would bring it over our house so we could play together. We would play Wii Sports and there I learned about some sports especially ones that are not really popular in the Philippines like Archery and Tennis. Wii is a great way to enhance the brain and body.
  • PSP

    PSP
PSP is a console developed by Sony. When we had a PSP, I remember also looking forward to playing it and I remember we would also put educational games there to enhance our cognitive skills. We still have it but I think people would rather just play on the PS consoles or their phones.
  • Apple

    Apple
Apple is one of the most popular brands of tablets, laptops and phones. Apple is somehow correlated to luxury, but I beg to differ. Being able to buy a device is privilege already, my first device just happened to be an Ipod Nano 6thGen. The nano doubled as a watch and a music source so when we jogged I would wear it on my wrist while running. It was, in my opinion, the best Generation since it was more portable than the next ones.
  • Facebook

    Facebook
Facebook is one of the most popular social media used today. As a responsible citizen, I actually waited to be 13 before I had an account. Now, I use FB to communicate to others and learn news from around the world. I also learn a lot of things here because most people share tutorials and videos of events.
  • Instagram

    Instagram
Instagram is a social media that focuses mainly in sharing and posting pictures. I use Instagram as a poster and also to see other people's lives that I follow. I also follow educational channels (like Discovery) and I am amazed at the photos they show about the world around us. Instagram is I think recommendable to visual people since it's mostly pictures and videos and words are not much.
  • WordPress

    WordPress
WordPress is one of the long-running platforms for blogging and posting information. Although that previous statement is a fact, I actually learned of WordPress last year because we were required to make a blog in our Creative Writing class in Junior High. It was actually fun to use and as a person who posted compositions, I was able to show people some things currently happening in our country. WordPress I think is a good platform if you want to reach an international audience.
