    I spent four and a half years at SUNY Oneonta, working towards a dual certification in Early Childhood and Childhood Education. During my final semester, I was able to student teach in the Connetquot School District for second and fifth grade.

    After graduation I was determined to make a name for myself as a determined and hard working educator. I spent most of my time substituting in the many elementary schools in the Connetquot School District. My experiences throughout this time allowed me to gain a better understanding for the curriculum in a variety of grades. In addition I felt the opportunities allowed me to develop better classroom management skills.

    Summer Enrichment Program
    For the summer of 2014, I accepted a teaching position for Eastern Suffolk BOCES' Summer Enrichment Program. While working for the program I was able to explore my creativity as an educator and conduct lessons that would connect to the school's curriculum. While working for the program I gained a better understanding for the importance of providing children with hands on experiences.

    Welcome to First Grade
    I began the 2014 school year as a leave replacement for a first grade inclusion teacher. Although it was a short leave, I was able to learn more about the special education side of education. During this time I was educated more on the IEP process and the importance of a least restrictive environment.

    Response To Intervention
    After working in an elementary school as a first grade leave replacement, I received an opportunity to return to the school as their AIS/RTI teacher. I held this position from October until January. While acting as the RTI teacher, I pushed into fourth and fifth grade classroom and pulled small groups to provide support to struggling learners. The experience allowed me to develop relationships with effective educators and gain more experience in the education field.

    After working in a variety of elementary schools and in positions with children with special needs, I decided to begin graduate school to receive my degree in special education.

    After completing my leave replacement as an RTI teacher, I received a position as a permanent substitute for the Syosset School District. I became more knowledgeable of diverse methods of instruction. While working in Syosset, I gained a better understanding of the importance of home and school partnerships.

    Prior to the start of the 2015-2016 School year, I accepted a position as a year long leave for a third grade class in the Connetquot School District. During this year I have learned about myself as an educator and the importance of collaborating with others. I built relationships with parents, students, and other educators. I learned more about differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners while implementing effective classroom management skills.

    Director Position
    After working for two summers as a teacher for the ESBOCES Summer Enrichment Program, I interviewed and accepted a position as a director for the program. I will be working with the teachers and assisting them in their development. The opportunity to work as the director of the program will give me a different perspective in the education field. I am interested in receiving my degree in administration and I believe this opportunity will be beneficial to my own development.
