Japanese invasion of China
Japan no longer wanted to rely on the U.S. for resources, and believed that Manchuria was a reliable source, considering they were already in a civil war. When the League of Nations voted to withdraw Japan from the war because they were completely in the wrong for the invasion, Japan walked away from League of Nations. -
Germany's invasion of Poland
The reason Germany invaded Poland was because Germany had plans to expand after they had took control of Austria and Czechoslovakia. Germany had seized all of Polana. -
German Blitzkrieg
The German Blitzkrieg is a German term meaning "Lightning war" which was a war tactic where disorganization came upon enemy forces using mobile devices and locally concentrated fire power. It ended with victory in preserving human lives and had successful execution numbers with a short war campaign. -
Operation Barbarossa
This was the code name for Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union. The reason for the invasion was for Hitlers desire to conquer Soviet territory. Nazi Germany pushed to far into Russia, where eventually Russia beat them back and the mission was a failure. -
Pearl Harbor
Also known as the battle of Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese empire launched a surprise attack on the United States of America, which led to the entry of America into World War 2. -
Wannsee conference
The Wannsee conference was a meeting of senior officials of Nazi Germany held in Berlin suburb of Wannsee. The purpose of the conference was to ensure the cooperation of administration leaders of various government departments. Legalized discrimination against Jews happened immediately after the conference. -
Battle of Midway
The United States broke Japense codes and countered an attack on Japnese ships. -
Battle of Stalingrad
A successful Soviet defense of Stalingrad. Stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union, and turned the tides in favor of the allies. -
Operation Gomorrah
The operation of Gomorrah was a campaign of air raids lasting for 8 days, which was the largest air raid in the history of aerial warfare. This air raid ended with Hamburg destroying most of the city. -
Allied invasion of Italy
The British army begins an invasion of the Italian peninsula. On that day, Italians secretly agreed to surrender to the allies. -
D-Day
The Normandy landings was the invasion of Normandy in operation overlord, high was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of German occupied northwestern Europe from Nazi control. This contributed to the Allied victory in the western front. -
Operation Thunderclap
Operation thunderclap was a Conde name for a cancelled operation plan. The plan was to launch a massive attack on Berlin to cause as many casualties as possible. Later on it was thought it would not work. -
Battle of the Bulge
The objection of the attack was to split the allied armies by a surprise blitzkrieg thrust through the Ardennes to Antwerp. This was the costliest battle ever to be fought by the U.S. which suffered over 100,000 deaths. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The battle of Iwo Jima was when three U.S. marine divisions landed on the island. Despite their tactics to defend, the marines wiped out the defending forces over a month of fighting. -
Battle of Okinawaw
200,000 U.S. Soldiers invaded 130,000 Japanese soldiers. Vital air bases were at stake to launch the invasion. At the end Japan had lost over 72,000 Japan soldiers, and the allies suffered 65,000 casualties. -
VE Day
On this day Germans laid down their arms in Europe to the Soviet antagonist. -
Potsdam Decleration
It was the statement that called for the surrender of all Japenese armed forces during WW2. It stated if Japan did not surrender, then it would call for mass destruction. -
Dropping of the atomic bombs
America became the first country to use atomic weaponry in war time. After they dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima, it brought an end to WW2. -
VJ Day
On this day Japan announced they had surrendered to the allies. This completely ended WW2. -
Fall of Paris
