    There was not enough data and the seismograph was not invented yet in order to calculate the magnitude. It is estimated that 36,000 people died. An interesting fact I found was that on the next day, August 27th, an eruption was heard 2800 miles away

    The magnitude of the Aleutian earthquake was a 8.1. Approximately 160 people killed. An interesting fact I found was that this tsunami caused over 26 million dollars in damage

    The Chile earthquake had a magnitude of 9.5 and was estimated to kill 61 people when the tsunami hit Hawaii. I found interesting that it was caused by subduction of the Nazca plate under South America.

    The Papua New Guinea quake had a magnitude of 7.1 and killed more than 2,100 people. An interesting fact I found was that the hospitals were overwhelmed and left people untreated for days at a time. This lead to gangrene.

    This earthquake had a magnitude of 9.1 and killed 230,000 people. I found interesting that the rupture was more than 600 miles long.

    The Samoa earth quakes had a magnitude of 8.1 and killed about 200 people. I found interesting that many people went missing and still have not been found after the tsunami.
