    He was born in 1398 in Tenochtitlan. His parents were Queen Miahuaxihuitl and Emperor Huitzilihuitl. He was born into royalty and would be the 5th Aztec ruler.

    He started his reign in 1440 which is when he was 42. He took over after his father who died in 1417. From 1417 to 1440 other family members took over ruling until Montezuma was old enough to rule.

    In 1440 when Montezuma took over he started an alliance with some neighboring states. They were Tlacopan and Texoco. They decided that ⅖ of the land they captured would go to the Aztecs, ⅖ of it would go to Texoco, and ⅕ to the Tlacopan.

    Drought

    In the mid 1440s the Aztecs were caught in a drought that would last four years. Many of the Aztecs died due to starvation. Through this drought he maintained the balance of the Aztec Tribe and they flourished after the drought.

    In 1450 Montezuma and the Aztecs established a garrison at Mitla. They established this garrison to be able to control more of Latin America. By being in control of this territory they controlled most of Southern Mexico.

    In 1452 the complete opposite of the drought that happened was happening. There was a flood that destroyed most of the city of Tenochtitlan. Montezuma led the Aztecs through this and helped them rebuild the city.

    In 1458 he took over the Mixtec, who were allied with many other tribes. After he took over the Mixtec he let the other tribes keep their chief but he had other plans for the Mixtec Chief. He hung the Chief and took his family as slaves.

    In 1461 the Aztecs captured the lands of the Totonacs. The Totonacs were allied with the Coatzacoalcos but the Aztecs still beat them. This helped them solidify their claim to secure the South of Mexico.

    In 1466 Montezuma participated in what would be his final war. It was against the Tepeaca. This war was to try to protect their rules and regulations.
