  • Proclamation Of Neutrality

    President George Washington formally announced in May 1793 The Proclamtaion Of Neutrality that banned America from helping any side in war with France and Great Britian
  • X,Y,Z Affair

    President John Monroe sent diplomats to the Republic of France to resolve a conflict between to the two countries. When the diplomats arrived, France demanded bribes and a loan before formal negotiations could begin. The US diplomats left before negotiations began. XYZ derives from the substitution of the letters X, Y and Z for the names of French diplomats Hottinguer (X), Bellamy (Y), and Hauteval (Z) in documents released by the Adams administration.
  • Convention of 1800

    The Convention of 1800 was a treaty between the United States and France to settle the hostilities that had erupted during the Quasi-War. This war was waged in the Caribbean. France decided that it would be beneficial for American to remain neutral to them. At least they would continue to get the grain the needed.
  • Louisiana Purchase Treaty

    The Louisiana Purchase Treaty was signed on April 30, 1803. President Thomas Jefferson announced the treaty to the American people on July 4. The purchase of the Louisiana territory is considered one of the greatest real estate deal ever accomplished.
  • Embargo Act

    The Embargo Act in 1807 was sponsored by President Thomas Jefferson and enacted by Congress. The act made it illegal on any and all exports from the United States. They wanted to make the French and the British respect Americas rights. American vessels were prohibited from landing in any foreign port unless specifically authorized by the President himself.
  • War of 1812

    President Madison declared war of 1812. It was caused by the the impressment of our sailors. The war lasted for 2.5 years. It was fought in the US. The War ended in March 1815.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent is a peace treaty between United States and Great Britian in 1812. The treaty stated all conquered territory was to be returned, and commissions were planned to settle the boundary of the United States and Canada.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    President James Monroe delievered the doctrine to Congress. It was the seventh annual message to Congress. This Doctrine describes the U.S. foreign policy regarding European countries
