Grand Mosque Seizure
A hostage taking from November 20 till December 5, 1979 in Mecca,Saudi Arabia. 240 people were killed (87 terrorists killed) and 600 injured. Juhayman Al-Oteibi and Mohammed Abdullah al-Qahtanti were responsible for the attack. The purpose of the attack was to revolt against the Saudi Monarchy. They accused the monarchy of betrayal against the Islamic principles and sold out to western countries. -
Air India Flight 182
On June 23,1989 in multiple locations, mid-air bombings of Air India flight occured. The bomb intnded for Social Air India flight exploded in Narita, Airport, Japan. In total 331 people were killed and 4 were injured. Members of the Sikh Militant group Babbar Khalsa are responsible for the bobmings. The purpose of this attack was a retaliation against India for the operation carried out by the Indian Army Operation Blue Star. -
Oklahoma City Bombing
On April 19, 1995 in Oklahoma City,Oklahoma U.S.A, a truck bombing of federal buildings, causing partial collapse of buildings to occur, happened. This bombing killed 169 people and injured 675. Timothy McVeigh is responsible for the action and Terry Nicholas is responsible for helping building the bomb. The purpose behind this attack was Timothy's extreme ideologies and anger over events at Waco 2 years earlier. -
Moscow Theater Hostage Crisis
On October 23-26 2002 in Moscow, Russia, a hostage taking and attempted rescue in theater occured. 170 people were killed including 41 terrorists. 656 people were injured in the event. Chechen rebels are held responsible for the attack. The purpose was they wanted Russian Military forces to begin an immediate and complete withdrawal from Chechnya. -
Beslan School Siege
On September 1-3 2004 in Beslan, Russia, a hostage taking at school occcured. 372 people were killed (including 35 terrorist) and 747 people were injured. The Chechen Rebels were held responsible for this event. The purpose behind this attack was they wanted to demand recognition of the independence of Chechenya and the UN and Russian withdrawal from Chechenya. -
Car Bombing
On July 13, 2005 in Baghdad, Iraq a car bombing went off near children and those in the U.S military. 27 people were killed in total, 24 being children. 50 people were injured, 20 of them being children. The attacker was a suicide bomber. The purpose was to use the car bomb and drive it towards the U.S military and children, who were being given presents from the army. -
Mumbai Terror Attack
On November 26-29,2008 in Mumbai, India, multiple shooting and grenade attacks occured. Hostage takings were also apart of this event. 174 people were killed, 9 being terrorists, and 370 people were injured. Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan based terrorist organization, is held responsible for this attack. The purpose was to establish an Islamic Caliphale in India. -
Damaturu Attacks
On Novmeber 4, 2011 in Damaturu, Yobe, Nigeria, bombings and shooting attacks on churches, police headquarters, government buildings and banks occured. In total 100 people were killed and 100 people were injured. Boko Haram, a militant Islamic group, is being held responsible for the attacks. The purpose behind these attacks is to institute Sharia, Islamic Law. -
Sana'a Mosque Attack
On March 20,2015 in Sana'a, Yemen, bombings at Mosque by suicide bombers took place. 142 people were killed and 351 were injured because of the attack. ISIL openingly stated they were responsible for this attack. Their reasoning behind the attack was they won't stop till the Safawi Operation in Yemen ends.
