Michael's Personal History

  • Parents Divorce- Personal

Due to my parents divorce, my mom, brother, and I moved from Alaska to Arizona. This is important because it was the start of a bumpy, yet incredible journey.
  • The Ranch- Personal

My mom took a job as a ranch manager and we moved to a thousand+ acre cattle ranch in Arizona where I spent my elementary years. This important to me because it was here where I learned the true meaning of hard work. Ranch life is a tough; however, as a kid what better place to grow up!?
  • Benson- Personal

In the summer of 2006 we moved to a small town called Benson in Arizona. This was your typical small town living: work hard, play harder. This town holds a lot of great memories for me.
  • Moved to Nashville- Personal

My mom married my stepdad and we moved to Nashville. Probably the most important move of my life. If it wasn't for this move I honestly don't think I would be in college today, nor do I think I would be a Christian.
  • Jesus- Personal

The summer after moving to Nashville, I made the decision to give my life to Jesus. If it wasn't for my mom marrying the man of God she did I wouldn't be who I am spiritually today. I am thankful for his guidance through the years. He introduced me to my youth pastor who spiritually challenged me every Sunday and Wednesday night.
  • International Baccalaureate- Professional

I grew up in a small rural town and attended a small country school. I never appreciated education; all I wanted to do was learn the material and take the test. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school-my first year as an IB student, that I learned to value my education. The two years I spent in IB definitely shaped me into a better student. Joining IB has probably been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I wouldn't be in college today if it wasn't for this program.
  • Carson-Newman University

Began my journey at Carson-Newman. Here I began my journey to become a teacher. I started as a biology major with the intention of getting a masters in teaching, changed to middle grades, and then changed to elementary with a middle grades add-on. As a student I hated school, it was boring and pointless. Due to teachers who cared, challenged me to see the world differently, and encouraged me to do my best, I began to see the importance of my education and I want to do the same for my students.
  • Bonner Program

Began my service in the program as the Site Leader at BOOST, an after-school tutoring and mentoring program in the Jefferson City Housing Authority. This program has given me many opportunities to invest in this community and work in youth development to better the lives of youth in this community.
  • AYSO

I started coaching soccer. This has been a great learning experience. I am currently in my 3rd season of coaching and currently have two teams: U8 and U10. I have learned a lot about the importance of planning, behavior management, and precision.
  • Education Director

I accepted a job at the Boys and Girls Club as the Education Director. If anything has prepared me for the classroom, it's this job. I have done my best to expand the educational programming we offer. I have incorporated a variety of learning centers and expanded our literacy center. It has been great to apply what I am learning in the classroom to my work.
