    Prince Shotoku

    In the 600's, Prince Shotoku of the Yamato sent nobles to study in China.

    Tang Court

    For 200 years, Japanese students, monks, traders, and officials visited the Tang Court.

    Yoritomo Minamoto

    Yoritomo Minamoto, the shogun, set up the three military dynasties that ruled the world for 700 years.

    The Three Great Unifiers

    Oda Nobunaga, Totoyomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu.
  • 1582

    Hideyoshi's Reign

    In 1582, Hideyoshi takes over. He attemps to finish unification but local Daimyo continue to control individual areas, and they are forced to ally.
  • Tokugawa

    Early 1600's: Japan is unified politically by military commanders. Lead Commander: Shogun from the Tokugawa. Set up the Tokugawa.
  • Beggining to Isolate

    All missonaries were removed, and foregin trade is closely controlled. Japanese were forbbiden to leave.
