The Beginning
John and Jenny get married at the beginning of the story and move to Florida to start their lives. They end up working at competing newspapers. -
Adopting Marley
John and Jenny realize that something is missing in their family, and decide to adopt an adorable Lab named Marley! They name him after their favorite singer, Bob Marley. -
Marley's Mischief
Shortly after adopting Marley, John and Jenny slowly begin to realize how energetic and spastic marley truly is. They have to puppy proof the house due to him constantly eating toilet paper and breaking into his food container. -
Obedience School
Marley was wrecking the house, and Jenny decided it was time to take him to obedience school. John And Jenny were expecting a baby at this time, and they wanted the house to be as safe as possible when they had their new baby. Sadly, Marley is kicked out of the school for his terrible behavior. -
The Honeymoon
After struggling with a heart breaking miscarriage, John and Jenny decide to go to Ireland for a late honeymoon. Marley is being taken care of by a dog sitter at home. -
Baby on the Way
When Jenny gets home, she begins to show signs of pregnancy. When she takes the test, Marley steals the test before she can look. When John finally catches him, the couple rejoices in the positive stick! Jenny is pregnant! -
Patrick is Born
Jenny and John's new baby, Patick, is born. Although Marley realizes he is not the center of attention anymore, he loves Patrick and is very protective of him. -
Neighborhood Stabbing
In the middle of the night, John and Jenny's seventeen year old neighbor cries out because she had been stabbed. Marley and John watch over the young girl. -
Connor is Born
Soon after the stabbing, Jenny delivers her second son, Connor. Jenny then begins to struggle with postpastum depression and wants Marley out of the house. After Jenny realizes how important Marley is to the family, she lets him stay and her depression slowly goes away. -
The Move
John and Jenny want to find a safer location for their growing family. The family gets up and moves to Boca, which is a very safe area of Florida. John becomes very successful at work, and Jenny becomes a stay at home mom. -
Colleen is Born
Jenny has her third and last baby named Colleen. -
Moving to Pennsylvania
John gets a job at an organic gardening magazine, which moves his whole family to Pennsylvania. The family enjoys a quiet home in the country, and they all see snow for the first time. Marley loves the snow. -
Trip to Boston
The family decides to take a trip to Boston to visit family. Marley is left at a local kennel during this trip. While at the kennel, Marley's stomach bloats and twists. Although the doctor is able to save Marley, he begins to show signs of deafness and arthritis. The family knows there isn't much time left to spend with Marley. -
Marley's Passing
Marley's condition worsens, and John has no choice but to put him down. The family buries Marley in their front yard so they can remember all of the good memories with him.
