    The union won the battle of Gettysburg and this gave the north a major morale boost. General Robert e. Lee plan was to invade the north. There were more than 50,000 estimated casualties.

    The southerners were afraid that Lincoln was elected and trying to free all slaves. The south were also scared because they couldn’t take slaves west so they were safe during the war thinking they would win so there slaves were still alive and not dead so they could work.
