  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    Who- The French, the British, and the Indians.
    What- The French and Indian war; a war for the territory over the Ohio River valley, the British won in the end.
    When- The spring of 1754.
    Where- North America in the Ohio River valley.
    Why- It showed how British America would fight for expansion.
    How- It helped gain land for present day America and allowed the Colonists to expand more to the west to push the idea of Manifest Destiny in the 19th century.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Who- The British and a mob of colonists
    What- The Boston Massacre; A mob of colonists harassed a bunch of British soldiers and they shot into the crowds, and killing multiple people.
    When- March 5th 1770
    Where-Boston, Massachusetts.
    Why- I chose this event because it is a famous rally that called for the appeal of some taxes.
    How- It was the start to appeal out the Stamp act and Townshend act.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Who- Sons of Liberty protest group
    What- Boston Tea Party, A protesting group that threw a ton of tea into the ocean to rebel against the tea act.
    When- December 16, 1773
    Where- Boston, Massachusetts
    Why- I chose this event because it marked the start to a chain reaction that led to the Revolutionary War.
    How- The act encouraged Britain to implement more acts on the colonies which started the spark for the revolutionary war.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    Who- The Continental Congress and Britain.
    What-The Declaration of Independence, a document that was signed and sent to tell Great Britain that they declared independence.
    When-July 4th, 1776
    Where- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Why-I chose this event because it marked the independence and freedoms of America and tells why the U.S decided with a democracy.
    How-This event is important because it announced the independence away from Great Britain.
  • The Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation
    Who- Congress and John Dickinson
    What- The Articles of Confederation, A document to establish the rights of every American in the country, it did not give the federal government much power.
    When- written 1777, ratified on March 1st, 1781
    Where-Baltimore, Maryland
    Why- I chose this event because it tells of the history of our nation’s government.
    How- The document was the first form of government the United States had at the time.
  • Northwest Ordinance

    Northwest Ordinance
    Who- The United States of America
    What- Northwest Ordinance of 1787, An organized settlement of people who moved to these states to gain territory. These areas did not allow slavery.
    When- enacted July 13, 1787
    Where- Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin
    Why- This event is important because the states that were against slavery grew more and more thanks to this act.
    How- The new territory allowed men to get land and settle down in the area.
  • Bill of Rights

    Bill of Rights
    Who- James Madison and Congress
    What- Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments of the constitution that gave basic rights.
    When-ratified December 15, 1791
    Where- Virginia was the last state to ratify the Bill of Rights
    Why- The basic rights are the building of America today.
    How- The basic rights of every human in America is protected by the constitution which has the Bill of Rights.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    Who- France and the United States
    What- Louisiana Purchase, a purchase of territory that was west of the Mississippi River.
    When- April 30th, 1803
    Where- Signed in Paris by Robert Livingston, James Monroe, and Barbà Marbois.
    Why- I chose this event because it supported the desire for Manifest Destiny which moved people further to the west.
    How- The event is important because it nearly doubled the size of the United States and was a bargain for the U.S
  • Act of Prohibiting Importation of Slaves

    Act of Prohibiting Importation of Slaves
    Who- Congress, slaves, and slave owners in America.
    What- Act of prohibiting importation of slaves, an act that prevented new slaves from being brought into America.
    When- March 2nd, 1807
    Where- The house and senate agreed on the bill and it started to take place in all states.
    Why- I chose this event because it helps people understand the slow process it was for slaves to be freed.
    How- This would lessen the rise of slavery and make the United States begin to become more equal to everybody.
  • Writing of the National Anthem

    Writing of the National Anthem
    Who- Francis Scott Key and John Stafford Smith
    What- Writing the National Anthem, The anthem that would become our national anthem for almost 200 years.
    When- Adopted March 3, 1931 created in 1814
    Where- He wrote four verses in Baltimore and now it is sung in almost all schools and events.
    Why- I chose this event because the U.S constantly uses this song and is recognizable.
    How- The song gave the nation an identity along with a national anthem.
  • The White House burning in 1814

    The White House burning in 1814
    Who- The British forces.
    What- The white house burning in 1814, the British set the White House ablaze and destroyed the area with the massive blaze after ransacking the area.
    When- August 24, 1814
    Where- Washington D.C.
    Why- It was the capitol of the United States that was burned in the middle of the war. It was a very big deal back at the time.
    How- This historical event was a point in the War of 1812 where the United States fought back after their capitol was captured.
  • The Trail of Tears

    The Trail of Tears
    Who- The Native Americans
    What- The Trail of Tears, A movement to relocate the native Americans to west of the Mississippi River, and many of them died from the cold, disease, or starvation.
    When- 1831
    Where- All over the U.S as the trails went to the west of the Mississippi
    Why- It affected thousands of Indians and many died at that time, making this time that we should not forget and should remember.
    How- It shows how badly people treated the Native Americans in that time era.
  • California Genocide

    California Genocide
    Who- Native Americans, The Spanish, and The U.S. prospectors
    What- California Genocide, A killing spree of the indigenous people due to the overpopulation of California at the time.
    When- 1845-1846
    Where- California
    Why- It was a direct result of the Gold Rush and should not be forgotten.
    How- The genocide was the result of the Gold Rush that should be mention so the bad is not forgot about the good. The gold rush was somewhat good but the California Genocide was terrible.

    The Gold Rush
    Who- The United States, James W. Marshall first found the gold.
    What- The Gold Rush, A time era in California where people flocked to get some gold.
    When- Began January 24, 1848 and ended 1855
    Where- California had mines in multiple areas of the state.
    Why- It shows how committed people become for a better life to travel across the United States to become a little richer.
    How- The Gold Rush brought a major population boost to California and helped raise its population to the country.
  • The Mexican War

    Who- Mexico and U.S.
    What- The Mexican War, A war for the overall land of the western territory. Manifest destiny fueled the charge for the land.
    When- started April 25, 1846 ended February 2, 1848
    Where- The area that is now Texas
    Why- I chose this event because it was a long war for land that the U.S wanted just to expand westward.
    How- The war marked more territory for the U.S and helped it grow into the country we know today.
  • The Fugitive Slave Act

    The Fugitive Slave Act
    Who-The southern slaves, slave owners, and Congress
    What-The Fugitive Slave Act, acts that arrested slaves and returned them to their slave owner.
    When- September 18, 1850
    Where-The act took place all over the United States.
    Why- It reminds people what we should not do in the future and that slavery is wrong.
    How- It helped maintain the south before the Civil War in the U.S and gave them their slaves back.

    Who- The Confederates and the Union
    What- The Civil War, A war that was fought over the controversy that enslavement should be illegal with the southern wanting slavery and the north wanting it to be abolished.
    When- Apr 12, 1861 – Apr 9, 1865
    Where-The North and South of the U.S
    Why- I chose this event because it resulted into the country we live in today.
    How-The war marked the end of slavery.
  • Lincoln's assassination

    Lincoln's assassination
    Who- Abraham Lincoln and John Booth
    What- Lincoln’s assassination, the assassination ended the presidents life early in his presidency.
    When-April 15, 1865
    Where- Ford’s Theatre
    Why-I chose this event because this president changed how the world would become with his beliefs.
    How- This is important because this assassinated president was the president to free the slaves and make them equal.
  • The Great Chicago Fire

    The Great Chicago Fire
    Who- The citizens who were involved in the fire.
    What- The Great Chicago fire, A fire that lasted 2 days and ended up killing 300 people with about 100,000 residents homeless.
    When- Oct 8, 1871 – Oct 10, 1871
    Where- Chicago, Illinois
    Why- I chose this event because it reminds us why we have safety precautions so we do not have situation like this happen again.
    How- The fire ended with 100,000 people homeless and caused the United States over 200 million dollars to rebuild.
  • Invention of the Telephone

    Invention of the Telephone
    Who- Alexander Bell
    What- Invention of the telephone
    When- 1876
    Where- the Lyceum, in Salem to Watson at the Boston Globe, in Boston.
    Why- I chose this event because it changed the way the U.S could speak with other nations.
    How-It was the first long distance phone call in history that allowed phones to become as high tech as they are today.
