During World War I, Germany had sunk a passenger ship carrying people as well as ammunition. Among the 1,201 people who drowned, 128 were American. -
Zimmermann Telegram
A coded telegram intercepted by the British that was originally going to be sent to Mexico proposing them and Germany as allies should the United States enter the war. They promised territory to Mexico if they helped. -
League of Nations
The League of Nations was an international organization made to help resolve international disputes. Many things caused the league to fail, like how the US didn't join, or how the depression came. The league's failure was one of the events that led to World War II. -

The banning of selling, making, distributing, or importing alcohol. This lasted in the United States from 1920 to 1933. Al Capone and many other mob bosses came to power during this time. -
Scopes Trial
In which John Thomas Scopes was arrested for teaching students about evolution instead of the diving creation of man. Apparently it was a law you weren't supposed to do that in Tennessee at the time. -
Stock Market Crash
Also known as the Wall Street Crash of 1929, this was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States. Some believe it was the primary reason fro the Great Depression. -

The US Dropped two atomic bombs on Japan a few days separate from each other, one on Hiroshima, the other on Nagasaki. -

A competition between the US and USSR to see who could get the most superior weapons faster. -

An important Supreme Court Case in which they ruled that separating black and white public schools to be unconstitutional. -

Part of the Cold War in which the US supported South Vietnam against communist North Vietnam. People were drafted in the US, and soon there was an anti-war campaign. -
Rosa Parks
A woman who refused to give up her seat to a white passenger and was arrested for it. This event started the Montgomery Bus Boycotts. -
Martin Luther King Jr.
An activist who was a leader in the African-American civil rights movement. He became known around the time of the bus boycotts in 1955 and was assassinated on the 4th of April, 1968. -
Space Race
Another competition between the US and USSR, but this time to see who could get more/better achievements regarding space travel. It began when the USSR successfully launched the Sputnik I. -
"I Have a Dream" Speech
A famous public speech given by activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the march on Washington. -
